Although in the year 1984 a chapter of ICAI – called “North Bengal Chapter of ICAI” was formed under the Chairmanship of CA. P. C. Maskaraji, journey of Chartered Accountants in this small and beautiful town Siliguri was started in the year 1969 when our senior most members CA P C Maskaraji had started his practice in this town. That was the beginning and since then there was no turning back.
In the year 1990 that very small Chapter was converted into a Branch under the Chairmanship of CA. D. K. Banerjee. It’s a matter of pride and delight for us to share that it was that period of time when our senior members had purchased this plot of land on which this building is situated in the name of ICAI from their own contribution much prior to the formation of this esteemed Branch.
Now, Siliguri Branch has its own three storied Building (ICAI Bhawan) which has all modern facilities for its members and students. This was possible only because of the foresight and dedication of our senior members. Today we are having two modern & state of art Seminar Halls at 1st & 2nd Floors of the ICAI Bhawan, A modern computer lab having 48 computers, a library room, Administrative block, a guest house and Chairman’s room in this building. Today we are around 900 Plus members to bear the torch of this Branch. It covers entire six districts of North Bengal and adjacent State of Sikkim and also serves the members and students of our neighbouring countries Nepal and Bhutan.
Keeping the regular growth in the number of membership a new Branch Building at Kawakhali, Silguri is also in pipeline for which the Land has already been allotted by the SJDA.
This little town Siliguri was recognized as an examination centre in the year 1998 and it helped our branch to create a huge awareness and appropriate environment amongst the students of this not much developed region to take up this professional course as their profession.
Regular classes, Crash courses, Organising regular programs and seminars for the students, It’s well equipped IT lab, It’s library and overall the guidance of the members of this region, helped the aspiring and budding CAs and more particularly the girls students of this region to take up this International Course, even staying in a remote place like North Bengal. Today we are very proud to share that the passing percentage of this region is always been much higher than the National level and out of that passing percentage of girls are much higher than that of the boys.
The Siliguri Branch of EICASA was formed in the year 2009 which looks after the entire student activities of this branch under the guidance of Branch managing committee. We are glad to inform you that in the last year it has organised several seminars, workshops, classes, Industrial visits, social services, study tours, GMCS classes, IT classes. Out of which few classes were exclusively for the students of the neighbouring Country NEPAL.
The Branch has been holding Seminars, Workshops, Certificate courses, CPE programs and teleconferences on various topics as a part of its regular activities. It has also organised several social programs for the benefits of the needy people of the society viz. Food grain distribution, blanket distribution, school bag distribution, Plantation, organising blood donation camp etc.
Since 2008-09, in every year Siliguri Branch has been awarded either the Best Branch Prize or highly commendable branch certificates and best student Associations in the respective categories by ICAI, New Delhi.
Siliguri Branch of EIRC has also been awarded the Best Branch Award & Siliguri Branch of EICASA has bagged the Best Student Association by EIRC, Kolkata.
Siliguri Branch successfully organized the National Convention of CA Students at Siliguri in the year 2009, 2012, 2013 & 2015.
Members of this branch have proved their leadership qualities in each and every facets of life - be it in the Lions Club, Rotary Clubs, other Social organisations, business houses and other fields. The Past EIRC Chairman CA Manish Goyal is also a past Chairman of this branch.
